    Description

Gennaro ed Achille Vinaccia soloist mandolin, 1899
This is a soloist mandolin made by the Fratelli Vinaccia (Gennaro ed Achille Vinaccia) in 1899. The soloist fingerboard is original, an unusual request at the time. The back is made of maple with 35 ribs and fine lines of ebony in between. The ebony fingerboard has 29 frets with motherpearl strips on the main frets.
The top has a beautiful darker tone finish, a real tortoiseshell scratchplate with motherpearl motifs engraved, and ebony decorations around the top. The soundhole is adorned with motherpearl motifs with ebony on the background. The neck is veneered with ebony, with motherpearl decoration near the head, and the machinehead is made of silver. with floral engravings. The tuners are made of motherpearl.
The instrument is in good condition and ready to be played. There are some scratches on the bowl (which don't affect the sound) and there are no cracks. A couple frets could use a minor restoration for optimal performance. Worthy of a soloist, it has the beautiful sound typical of a Vinaccia, with a strong bass and clear trebles.
Brand new professional mandolin case is included.
(A sound sample is available on request).
